Review: In life, certain incidents that we think were cruel could actually end up doing more good than harm. Kiron Prabhakaran, through a young and old priest, tries to make this point clear through the film Thakkol. ![]() He is very strict and Ambrose (Indrajith Sukumaran) feels suffocated under him. The biggest want of Ambrose, who grows up to be a junior priest under Fr Mankunnathu, is freedom from his clutches. Finally, it happens when Ambrose gets promoted as the vicar in his hometown. And then he realises the underlying love behind the rudeness of Fr Mankunnathu. Indrajith and Murali Gopy, who are known for their friendship in real life, perfectly portrays the love-hate relationship between Ambrose and Mankunnathu Paili. The psychological mystery-drama progresses through the ruminations of Ambrose and can get highly philosophical. The director who has also written the film, has used a lot of imageries, anecdotes and instances to put forward his thoughts. ![]() Actor Nedumudi Venu and Renji Panicker too showcase decent performances in their limited screen time. The film also has Shaji Kailas-Annies son Rushin playing a young Ambrose. The most appreciable part of the movie is M Jayachandrans music both songs and the background score. The BGM is used only when needed and aptly, which is a rarity these days. Cinematographer Albin Antony captures the directors vision on screen in a way that the mystery behind the thoughts of Ambrose and the way he is evolving are articulated well. However, the film at some point confuses the viewer on the basic storyline and it this makes it a bit tedious to watch. Thakkol is a highly philosophical movie narrated through a complex story line. But the film will make you think as you walk out of the theatre. After all, arent we all fighting with our inner demons, every day.
